A smell is a gas, and a gas passes straight through a particle filter. The R400 carries 8 lb of activated carbon made from coconut shell, which adsorbs airborne chemicals and everyday pollutants, and odors are among what it removes. Carbon holds a smell rather than covering it. It does not take out every trace, and a source that never stops, like a litter box, fills the carbon sooner.
It measures 25 dB on the low setting and 54 dB on high. Low is the setting for night. High is easy to hear.
Change the carbon filter every 2 years, the HEPA filter every 3 years and the pre-filter every 12 months. You can vacuum the pre-filter through the grill in between. Power costs about $0.27 a day on medium, running day and night.
Powder coated steel. The all metal housing ensures no plastic vapors are emitted. Ozone emissions: none.
Airpura rates the R400 for up to 1,000 sq ft at 2 air changes an hour with 8 ft ceilings. It is 15.5 in high, 12 in wide and 23 lb, with no casters, so it suits one bedroom, a home office or the room with the litter box. It is on California's CARB certified list.
For home use Airpura covers parts and labor for 5 years, then labor only up to year 10. Filters are not covered.
